On the occasion of the European Heart Failure Awareness Day on May 8/9, 2010announced for the first time by the Heart Failure Association (HFA) of the ESC, the attending journalists received information during a press conference in Vienna.
With its great significance in terms of health policies, its considerable number of undetected cases as well as its therapeutic possibilities, the topic of heart failure was examined by the president of the ASC (Prof. Irene Lang), the Austrian HFA board member (Prof. Burkert Pieske), the director of the WG for Heart Failure at that time (Prof. Friedrich Fruhwald) and the current director of the latter (Senior Physician Hans Altenberger).

The WG for Heart Failure is actively participating in the EuroHeart Failure Survey - pilot phase . Here all patients with acute or chronic heart failure who are being treated at the centres (stationary and ambulatory) on a weekday (of their choice) are being documented.
This survey is meant to document the differences in the treatment of patients with heart failure in Europe to determine results that are relevant for health policies.
