The work group “Cardiological assistance and care personnel” (CAP-ASC) is part of the Austrian Society of Cardiology and represents staff members who are not physicians.
It comprises the occupational groups of certified health and care experts, radiotechnologists, dietologists, certified medical specialists and physical therapists.
Extraordinary membership in the CAP-ASC is open to all occupational groups.
In the field of internal medicine, the tendency to specialise started shortly after World War II.
It is only natural that cardiology became a pioneering field, since medical technology in this particular area quickly realised means and possibilities that had previously been inconceivable.
The central cause was the introduction of the heart catheter.
This also resulted in a specialisation in the area of care and radiology, on an ambulatory and stationary level as well as in the heart catheter lab.
Following an initiative by Prof. Dr. Otmar Pachinger, the work group was founded by Annemarie Baker and a team in 1991.
From this a core group = "Nucleus" was formed, which creates the contents of this work group with rotating members.
In 1998 this work group first presented itself with its own website: www.kap.co.at Competent - Active - Professional CAP
Today the group presents itself on an interdisciplinary and international level.
Interdisciplinary support of the cardiological patient is provided in accordance with modern high-performance medicine and human closeness.
Our activities include collaborating in the organisation, the coordination and execution of the various cardiological diagnoses and therapies such as ECG, heart ultrasound, follow-up care for pacemakers, heart catheter exams and treatments, cardiological care at stations and in outpatient clinics.
We work in compliance with the recognised and current guidelines in medicine, technology and care.
Our task is to develop and offer advanced and continuing training in these specialised areas.
We enter into cooperations with domestic and international specialty groups to exchange information and gain experience.
