Thanks to the impressive advances made in modern cardiology, our life expectancy has increased considerably. A large part of the increase in life expectancy among men (+5.75 years) observed from 1980 to 2002 can be attributed to a lowered fatality from cardiovascular diseases. This means that the achievements in modern cardiology have every reason to be considered a success story.
However, this is offset by a less positive development in the sponsorship of cardiological research projects. The general budget shortages also extend to heart research, making the financing of independent research projects increasingly difficult.
This is why the Austrian Heart Foundation was founded in 2010 analogously to the German Heart Foundation as a non-profit foundation .
The goal of the foundation is to secure scientific heart research in
Austria for the long term.
Even during periods of general budget shortages, this tool is intended to provide the chance of supporting heart research, which is so vital for many people.
To secure heart research in Austria for the long term, we need
help from everyone in our country and have created a structure
jointly with the Austrian Heart Foundation to exclusively promote heart research
and which is able to receive all forms of donations and estates .
As per the administrative order of the Finance Ministry (GZ.SPE 33/08 from May 22, 2010), the Heart Foundation is “donation-privileged” according to §4a Z1 (b) e EStG 1988, which means that donations are tax-deductible.
The Foundation is located at the Medical University in Vienna (1090), Währinger Gürtel 18-20.
